Overview

Delivery documents are essential records used in the transportation of goods, particularly in the fashion, luxury, jewelry, and beauty industries, where precise handling of high-value items is critical. These documents, including delivery memos, proforma invoices, or any other shipping manifests, provide detailed information about the shipment's contents, quantities, and destination. They serve as verification tools for both senders and recipients, ensuring that the right products are delivered accurately and securely. Moreover, delivery documents are crucial for legal compliance, inventory management, customs clearance, and resolving disputes, making them indispensable for efficient and transparent logistics operations.

Delivery Document Types

By default, Launchmetrics provides you with some ready-to-use documents to help you save some time and start sending samples in no time. Each of these documents plays a critical role in ensuring smooth, compliant, and efficient shipping and logistics operations, particularly in the high-value fashion and luxury sectors where accurate documentation is crucial for legal compliance and customer satisfaction.

  • Delivery Memo (Packing Slip)
    • Use Case: A document included in the shipment that lists the items being shipped, quantities, and other pertinent details like SKU, weight, and shipping address.
    • Importance: Essential for verifying the contents of a shipment upon delivery, ensuring that the correct items are received. It helps both the sender and receiver confirm that the order matches the loan, purchase order, or invoice.

  • Documento di Trasporto (Italy's Domestic Shipping Document)
    • Use Case: Used within Italy to document the movement of goods during domestic transport, typically between companies, warehouses, or stores.
    • Importance: Serves as proof of the transfer of goods, helps manage inventory, and can be used in case of legal or tax inspections. It is mandatory for companies operating in Italy when moving goods without a sale, like consignment or internal transfers.

  • Courier Memo (Domestic Shipping Document for Other Countries)
    • Use Case: Used for domestic shipments in all countries except Italy, serving a similar function as the Documento di Trasporto.
    • Importance: Provides proof of shipment, helps track the movement of goods, and assists in inventory management. It's a crucial document for logistics within countries where it applies.

  • Pro Forma Invoice (International Shipping Document)
    • Use Case: A preliminary invoice sent ahead of the actual sale that outlines the goods being shipped, their value, and shipping costs. Commonly used for international shipments.
    • Importance: Used to declare the value of goods for customs purposes, facilitating the clearance process. It helps in assessing duties and taxes and is often used when goods are sent as samples, gifts, or pre-sale. This document is important for duty drawbacks perspectives.

  • Return Document (Return Package Slip)
    • Use Case: Used when returning goods, essentially reversing the shipment direction by swapping the "Ship To" and "Ship From" addresses.
    • Importance: Ensures proper tracking and handling of returned items, streamlining the return process, and verifying that the correct items are being returned. Helps maintain accurate records for inventory and customer service management.
