Introduction

Threads is a new social network by Meta. With a feature set that is very similar to Twitter/X, it launched on July 5, 2023 (December 14, 2023 in Europe) achieving a fast growth (reaching 100 million users in just 5 days) but with the user base slowly decreasing shortly afterwards. Nonetheless, with Meta being a key player in the social landscape, it's a network worth understanding and keeping track of.

What is Threads?

Threads is a text-based social networking app that emphasizes real-time conversations. It allows users to post photos and videos, and engage in discussions on various topics. The app, resembling Twitter in its basic structure, encourages users to “say more” with a 500-character limit for messages.

The application is available on iOS and Android devices; and it also has a web version that offers limited functionality and requires a mobile app install first.

It is closely linked to Meta platform Instagram and requires users to both have an Instagram account and use Threads under the same Instagram handle.

Launchmetrics Availability

Currently (January 2024) Threads content is not available on Launchmetrics platforms, as APIs for Threads are not yet available, preventing monitoring capabilities.
